Energy efficient tools from SKF at Sustainability Live

SKF will be demonstrating a variety of tools for reducing energy consumption at Sustainability Live, which runs at the NEC, Birmingham from 16-18 April 2013. SKF's large and expanding energy efficient product portfolio will be a focal point of Sustainability Live, which is a key event for those involved in sustainable energy, water and energy from waste.

One of the latest products on show will be the SKF WAVE seal, a low-friction shaft-sealing system. The seal features a specially moulded lip that forms a wave pattern around the shaft surface, pumping lubricant back to the bearing, while pushing contamination away. The specially designed lip minimises premature seal failure by generating up to 35 per cent less heat at the contact point. The SKF WAVE seal also creates 20 per cent less friction torque, and provides greater lip lubrication than standard lip versions, offering a more environmentally friendly sealing option on many levels.

SKF has launched a series of innovations to support sustainability as part of its BeyondZero initiative. The SKF BeyondZero portfolio contains a range of products that reduce energy consumption, including the SKF CASM electric cylinder, an electromechanical approach for replacing conventional pneumatic cylinder systems, providing customers an energy use reduction of up to 90 per cent.

Another key element of the BeyondZero portfolio is the SKF Energy Efficient (E2) bearing range, a family of performance-class bearings that have been specially engineered and manufactured to reduce frictional moment by 30 per cent or more beyond the already efficient SKF standard bearings. Because E2 bearings run cooler compared with SKF standard bearings at equivalent loads and speeds, they also reduce lubricant use and potentially extend the life of equipment. SKF E2 bearings enable equipment manufacturers to build greater energy efficiency into their equipment, reducing total cost of ownership for end users and boosting sustainability across industry on a global scale.
