Energy Savings Estimator for variable speed drive projects
Eaton is launching a free Energy Savings Estimator software package to help industrial and commercial users of fans and pumps calculate quickly and easily how much they could reduce their energy costs and cut their carbon emissions by fitting variable speed drives. The new software download produces detailed reports that are suitable for inclusion in business case proposals.
The intuitive software tools works on a project basis, so can be used for individual motor-driven pumps or fans, or an entire plant with multiple machines. In either case, users are guided through a simple five-stage process that leads to the production of a detailed report on the savings in energy and carbon dioxide. All data entered can be stored for later recall and, if necessary, modification. Stored data can also be used as the basis of new projects.
To use the software, first the project and site information is entered, then the energy costs, and then the detailed project definition. Here information for each pump or fan is entered, including the type of flow control already in use (if any), the motor rating and efficiency, duty cycle (which is displayed in graphical and numerical forms) and the operating hours.
The user also enters the price of the variable speed drive, the cost of installing it and the value of any incentives available for enhancing energy efficiency. If Eaton drives are specified, the prices of suitable units are loaded automatically.
Once the above information has been loaded, the Energy Savings Estimator calculates and displays the estimated energy savings in kWh and in financial terms, together with estimated carbon footprint reduction in tonnes of CO2. An estimated payback period is also shown, and a graph of payback versus time can optionally be displayed. Finally, the project data and calculated results are collated in the form of a detailed report that can be viewed, printed, exported in a range of popular file formats, or attached to an email message.
