Engineering laboratory apprentices at Precision Acoustics

Precision Acoustics is currently looking to recruit an aspiring laboratory technician to join its award-winning team, following the successful completion of our current apprentice, Tamsin Knott.

Tamsin was the first lab technician apprentice to be hired by Precision Acoustics in 2014, having completed a BTEC Applied Science course at Weymouth College. Tamsin still has 4 months left of the Advanced Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship - which is endorsed by the National Physical Laboratory - and plans on continuing to study for a higher qualification, something that will also be supported by Precision Acoustics.

The new apprentice will work alongside a second lab technician, Rebecca Hallett, who joined as an apprentice two months ago.

Precision Acoustics boasts 25 years of research and development of ultrasonic test and imaging equipment including cancer-detecting technology, which is used extensively in the academic and health industries. The company is based in its premises in Higher Bockhampton.

Tamsin says: "I was curious to join Precision Acoustics to find out what the company does and how - and the experience so far has been extraordinary. I have not only been able to learn so much about the very sophisticated products that the company develop but also learned many essential skills I had previously had no idea about. This includes developing reporting and communication skills and learning how to use tools such as PowerPoint for presentations."

The company is now considering taking on further apprentices in 2017.

Managing Director Gary Livingstone adds: "Our apprenticeships have been a great success so far and we are very keen on passing on our knowledge and skills to young men and women who are keen to get a better understanding of how this industry works and the opportunities within it."
