ESAB has won its biggest ever single customer order for welding and cutting equipment and consumables, worth $22million, from wind tower manufacturer Vestas Towers.
ESAB, a subsidiary of Charter PLC, has won its biggest ever single customer order for welding and cutting equipment and consumables. This order, placed by wind tower manufacturing company Vestas Towers A/S (which is part of Vestas Wind Systems A/S), is worth in the region of $22million.
Nazmi Adams, Global Marketing Director for ESAB Holdings, says the company won the business due to its longstanding relationships with leading wind tower manufacturers, its ability to develop customised engineering systems, and its global footprint, as well as being the only welding and cutting company able to supply the complete product range. This allows for a one-stop project offer and reduces the customer's factory set-up risks.
ESAB will supply the complete equipment and consumables package, the full order comprising automated cutting equipment manufactured by ESAB in Florence USA, heavy automation welding equipment manufactured by ESAB in Sweden, and positioning and handling equipment supplied by ESAB's newly acquired facility in Singapore. The column-and-boom equipment will include ESAB's latest telescopic technology, which requires less factory floor space, offering customers significant productivity and capital outlay advantages. In addition, ESAB is very well positioned to supply the welding consumables once the wind tower factory comes into production. This significant win demonstrates ESAB's competitive advantage in this growing market segment.
The full equipment package will be delivered and installed during 2009.
