Flexicon extends hazardous area flameproof barrier glands range
Flexicon is extending its range of flameproof hazardous area EXD barrier glands to provide stainless steel (grade 316) fittings for applications that require additional corrosion resistance. The company has also introduced NPT threaded gland variants across its range of hazardous area fittings to further broaden their application and compatibility.
Suitable for Ex d, Ex e and Ex ta applications the stainless steel fittings have an ingress rating of up to IP69k, making them suitable for the most demanding and arduous installations. They can be used with any 10 of the 11 liquid-tight conduits from Flexicon's range to provide cable protection systems in Zone1, Zone 2, Zone 21 and Zone 22 hazardous areas.
The stainless steel grade 316 fitting is supplied with a nylon seal and two-part epoxy resin pack, instructions and gloves. It can be used with individual cores or oversheathed cable and has a high mechanical strength. The barrier gland has an operating temperature of -60degC to 85degC.
Flexicon's new stainless steel flameproof barrier glands are available to fit conduit diameters from 20mm to 63mm are available with either metric and NPT thread options.
Colin Legg, marketing manager for Flexicon says: "Our EXD barrier glands can be used with any of our liquid tight conduit systems to provide the specifier with a far wider choice of systems to use in hazardous areas than they have had before.
"Using flexible conduit as a means of cable protection provides superior mechanical protection for multiple cables and can reduce the need for expensive specialist cables. It can also help to reduce the installation time as multiple cables can be terminated with one barrier gland, depending on the selected size. Additional protection such as EMC shielding, high impact or crush resistance and corrosion and oil resistance are also performance benefits, dependent on the conduit selected."
