Flir E-Series compact thermal imaging cameras offer 'best value'

Flir Systems is launching the FLIR E-Series compact camera range, describing it as "The best value in thermal imaging and digital camera resolution we have ever offered." The new cameras are said to be suitable for those wanting enhanced imaging quality and more analysis functions from an entry-level thermal imaging camera.

Four versions complete this new series, with the top-of-the-range Flir E60 providing 76,800 pixels from its 320 x 240 uncooled detector. This enables users to see more detail and take more accurate temperature readings so that small thermal anomalies - down to 0.05degC - can be detected. It enables potential problems to be detected quickly, safely and from further away.

Three of the Flir E-Series models allow real-time thermal imaging at 60Hz for the efficient capture of moving components and dynamic events, revealing details that a 9Hz camera would miss. A built-in 3 megapixel digital camera produces what is claimed to be the clearest visible light reference pictures in its class for complete and detailed documentation.

Images and targeting

Good quality images, even in dark environments, can be taken thanks to inclusion of an LED lamp on the front of the camera. All models come with a laser pointer to help associate the hot spot on the thermal image with the physical target in the field.

Depending on the model selected, the Flir E-Series cameras can measure temperatures up to +650degC and include analysis tools such as multiple spot meters, automatic hot/cold detection markers, isotherms and automatic calculation of the temperature difference between two user-defined points on the image.

As predictive maintenance is a prime market for these new introductions, they also have a range of advanced features that optimise electro-mechanical inspection. These include picture-in-picture thermal and visual image overlay, thermal fusion that merges both image types, digital zoom and text/voice annotation. All images are saved in .jpg format and stored on an SD card.

Flir E-Series cameras are designed for use in harsh environments. Their inner core is protected by an IP54 housing. Easy access to all the analytics tools is via an intuitive user interface that takes full advantage of the entire 3.5inch touch screen. Extremely easy to use, all camera control buttons are at the user's fingertips.

Connectivity

Within its ethos of offering better thermal imaging cameras for lower prices, Flir also claims to lead the way on wireless connectivity. The Flir E-Series cameras enable the wireless transmission of images and other information to mobile devices such as an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. In this way users can share critical information immediately with decision makers on-site or via email.

The majority of models in the new Flir E-Series range also include Meterlink. This enables the transfer of important diagnostic data, acquired by an Extech clamp meter, to the thermal imaging camera to support findings and decisions.

All models are supplied with standard software that facilitates the creation of basic inspection reports. They are also compatible with the Flir advanced software packages.
