FO Ethernet transmission with just one fibre
The range of SFP modules for Managed Switches has now been extended to include WDM variants (Wavelength Division Multiplex) for 100 Mbps and 1000 Mbps. With the new modules, data transmission only takes place via a single optical fibre.
WDM technology enables data to be transmitted and received simultaneously, i.e., bi-directionally, on a single mode fibre. This does not limit the transmission quality or bandwidth. The technology is often used for rotating applications such as rotary tables or wind turbine generators. This means that switches and other network components can be economically and reliably connected with just one fibre via optical rotary transformers.
