Gas springs are useful for lifting, holding, counterbalancing and supporting weight and are used across both commercial and consumer markets, most commonly in car boots or hatchbacks. They are also used in windows and access panels, kitchen cabinets, marine boat seating and even within vending equipment.

This wide range of applications is reflected in the different sizes and formats that the springs, which are made in Leicester by ArvinMeritor, can be supplied.

The standard lift product - the Swift & Sure - provides a controlled rate of movement for applications such as hatch covers and machine guards and can bear loads of up to 350kg.

Econoloc gas springs have an additional integral safety shroud to protect the user in the unlikely event of failure in critical lift-assist operations in heavy duty operation, such as trucks, construction machinery, switchgear and agricultural equipment.

The Stop and Stay springs enable multi-position holding of a counterbalanced weight, such as sun bed and printer canopies, monitor arms, acoustic hoods and delicatessen counters.

For applications where the theoretical forces may be uncertain, Jet Press supplies Vari-lift gas springs, which can be easily altered by releasing the gas while the spring is in position. Spring weight varies from 5-250kg.

All the springs can be matched with a wide range of end connectors, such as ball joints, ball cups and eyes, and come in a range of different materials, including nylon, steel, stainless steel and zinc.

Mark Jones, sales manager at Jet Press, says: "The range of applications for gas springs is vast, but such is the variety of product that it is not easy to make the right choice for the right application. Years of providing hundreds of solutions for industry have given Jet press vast technical expertise and we are committed to using that knowledge to help customers find the gas spring that is best for them."
