Phoenix Contact has announced the dates and venues for its free Electrical and Functional Safety training courses in 2014. This follows the success of the similar events held during 2013 in conjunction with TV SD and Mechan Controls.

  • 10 June 2014 - Phoenix Contact Ltd (Halesfield 13, Telford)

  • 23 September 2014 - TUV SUD (Fareham)
  • 7 October 2014 - Museum of the Great Western Railway (Swindon)
  • 18 November - TUV SUD (Fareham)

This one-day course is to introduce delegates to, and give an overview of, EN 60204-1, Safety of machinery. Electrical equipment of machines. General requirements. In addition, the course covers:

  • Safety Concept ISO 13849
  • Safety Concept IEC 62061
  • Incorporating EN ISO 14119

Phoenix Contact says the Electrical and Functional Safety training course would suit people who already have a basic knowledge of electrical systems. Anyone involved in panel design/build or electrical control systems, machinery refurbishment/upgrade, as well as industrial electrical systems installers will be able to use their new knowledge of EN 60204-1 to build or refurbish machinery control systems to a level that meets the standards.

At the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Understand why the use of the EN standards is important for safety and compliance
  • Understand the scope of electrical equipment to which the EN standard applies
  • Be aware of the general and specific standard requirements
  • Understand the specific requirements of control functions, control devices, control gear, etc, taking into account operator interface with the machine
  • Know the test and technical documentation requirements for verifying that the machine or assembly of machines complies with the standard

  • Electrical isolation, termination and wiring
  • Protection against electric shock
  • Control circuits, control devices, and control functions
