Free seminars at Southern Manufacturing 2012

Many visitors to Southern Manufacturing and Electronics say that the free technical seminar programme is one of the highlights of the event. With sessions running over two days in two theatres, there is plenty of choice.

2012 sees the welcome return of Alan Ward from Bang Creations and his popular workshop Designing for Commercial Success. Also returning by popular demand will be Grant Baker from the Manufacturing Advisory Service - South East (MAS-SE), who will advise delegates on How to Succeed at Product Development.

In Advanced Materials & Composites, Neil Hopkinson, Professor of Manufacturing Engineering, Martin Highett from the Mercury Centre at the University of Sheffield, and Dr Alma Hodzic, Director of Composite Systems Innovation Centre, will show how UK manufacturers are creating innovative products using new materials and the wealth of opportunities being created in aerospace, automotive, Formula One, military and medical applications.

Medical devices and healthcare

In one of the most eagerly-awaited sessions Karen Booth, from the University of Sheffield Health Gateway, will look at the rapidly developing UK medical and healthcare market, including the growing number of opportunities for advanced manufacturing techniques and materials.

Practical business advice is also available over the two day programme: in Doing Business Abroad, Dermot Shean from UKTI takes delegates through the first steps in expanding a business overseas. Selling to the Energy Sector delivers practical advice on becoming a commissioned supplier. Supply Chain & SC21 examines how to get the best value from purchasing supply chain improvements in the aerospace and automotive sectors.

Further sessions will look at Quality Assurance, CE Marking, Lean and Six Sigma, effective marketing, how to improve efficiency in the workplace - and there will be many more as well. A full programme of the sessions is available on the show's blog site, blog.industrysouth.co.uk, and on the show website at www.industrysouth.co.uk, together with the pre-registration form. Entry to Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2012 and the technical seminar programme is completely free to business visitors.
