Harting features connectivity and RFID at PLASA London 2013

At PLASA London 2013, Harting is featuring its rugged connectivity products for a wide range of audio-visual multimedia installation applications, along with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems for asset management in the theatre and touring environment.

A major new product is Han-Eco Outdoor: a new addition to Harting's Han-Eco connector family specifically designed for outdoor applications. The Han-Eco Outdoor connector housing is based on robust high-performance plastic material, which gives the added benefit of light weight to the customer. Further weather-resistant features are provided by the specially designed housing profile and the use of flange gaskets in fluorine rubber (FPM).

The Han-Eco connector family is specifically designed for applications that do not require the full range of product features offered by the Harting Han B series of hoods and housings, but can benefit from the weight and cost advantages of thermoplastic housing material. Like the Han B standard series, the Han-Eco series is available in sizes 6 B, 10 B, 16 B and 24 B. Depending on size, versions of the hoods with straight or angled entries and housings for bulkhead mounting can be supplied.

When the connector is closed and locked, it provides a protection level of IP 65 as defined in DIN EN 60 529. The material also meets demanding flammability requirements of UL 94 Class V 0.

Harting's RFID technology can be applied for improved asset management for entertainment rental/hire companies and for theatres which share equipment for touring shows. The Ha-VIS RFID system offers a high degree of flexibility to simplify the implementation of scalable systems in different application sectors.

The system combines rugged, high-performance RFID readers with powerful data pre-processing to ensure high-speed data transmission and optimum dynamic network performance. Efficient software allows the scaling of RFID products from individual readers through to enterprise-wide systems across different locations.

As an aid to integration of the RFID transponding functions, all the readers provide UHF and HF technology as standard features. Their rugged design and construction allows them to be used in a wide range of industrial environments, including mounting on metal surfaces.

Harting will also show managed and unmanaged Ethernet switches for applications in theatre/concert lighting and automation networking. These switches can be built into customised control and junction boxes, providing theatres or concert event installers with a useful box-build assembly service backed up by a high level of expertise and advice of on-site integrated system connectivity.

Other new connector products on show include the Han-Yellock series of rugged rectangular connectors and Han-Fast Lock, which provides a power connection from Han-style connectors directly to a printed-circuit board.

Information on these connectivity and RFID products can be found in the HARTING ecatalogue at b2b.harting.com/ebusiness/en/gb, or visit the company at the PLASA London 2013 International pro audio and entertainment lighting event, ExCel, London, 6-9 October 2013, Stand B50.
