Following its success in the UK and national rounds of the competition, the QE pupils spent 3 days competing with top qualifying teams from over 40 countries which saw them successfully emerge with the Innovative Award, for demonstrating a strong combination of ingenuity and innovation.

Also winning its Teamwork Challenge Division, this enabled the team to progress to the next round where they came in at 5th position in the Division Champions - the best a European team has ever achieved!

Mr Noonan, Head of Technology, who had himself been crowned Teacher of the Year at the VEX Robotics UK national finals in Telford, says: "All the QE students felt that their experiences in Louisville, the Kentucky Exposition Centre and the Freedom Hall were once-in-a-lifetime. Having paused to enjoy the rollercoasters and fun of the Kentucky Kingdom amusement park, they have already started planning for next year!"

VEX Robotics is the largest and fastest growing middle and high school robotics competition in the world, with more than 20,000 teams from 40 countries that participate in over 2,300 competitions across the globe. As a leading platform for educational robotics around the world, VEX Robotics introduces children to the possibilities that a career in engineering has to offer.

Aimed at children 11 to 18, the VEX Robotics competition promotes teamwork, problem solving and leadership while encouraging them to get involved in STEM subjects.

Queen Elizabeth's School for Boy's is a state funded grammar school in Barnet, North London, which was founded in 1573 by Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester and others, in the name of Queen Elizabeth 1.

HBM is delighted to be able to support and develop this next generation of engineers. Offering students a great opportunity, schemes such as the VEX Robotics competition enables young people to understand how important engineering is and to help appreciate what it means for the growth of the country.
