High-precision measurement sensors for demanding environments

Micro Epsilon is promoting its eddy current sensor systems that are designed for high-performance, non-contact measurement in harsh environments. Whether the need is to measure displacement, position, gap or vibration, Micro Epsilon can offer a suitable combination of sensor and controller.

High-precision measurement sensors for demanding environments

The eddy current principle can be used with electrically conductive materials with ferromagnetic or non-ferromagnetic characteristics. Micro Epsilon provides different sensors for a variety of applications: from the universal, compact and low-cost sensor for automation and machine building tasks (eddyNCDT 3001), to very robust, easy-to-use models for test bench applications (eddyNCDT 3100), as well as ECT eddy current sensors for extremely harsh operating environments, and customer-specific versions.

Working in high pressures, extreme temperature, immersed in liquids or subjected to high shock and vibration, eddy current sensors are proven to remain reliable and stable in some of the most demanding environments.

Eddy current sensors are unaffected by non-conductive materials; for this reason, dust, dirt and oil do not influence the measurement. This fact, combined with the sensor's robust, temperature-compensated design, enable measurements to be made in harsh, industrial environments. In addition, the new eddyNCDT 3001 is suitable for offshore/marine applications where salt water is likely to be present.

The eddyNCDT 3001 is a new, efficient eddy current sensor with compact dimensions that would normally be associated with inductive sensors and proximity sensors. The temperature-compensated design provides high stability even in fluctuating ambient temperatures. The eddyNCDT 3001 comes with integrated electronics, offering an outstanding price/performance ratio and easy operation. Furthermore, the sensor is factory calibrated for ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic materials, which eliminates the need for field calibration of the sensor, and the sensor is also available with either a connector or with integrated cable.

Advantages of eddy current measurement sensors:

  • Wear-free and non-contact measurement
  • High precision and resolution
  • Robust for industrial purposes
  • High-frequency response for fast measurements
  • Suitable for OEM applications
