High shock-rated DC motor for operation in harsh conditions

Required for use in dusty salt-laden conditions, the motor has to operate at high altitude over a wide ambient temperature range, with low EMC emissions. To meet these requirements, a high-efficiency design was essential, with low losses and a low input current. The design incorporates rare-earth permanent magnets, low-loss lamination steel and novel designs in the windings and construction.

Operating at 2100rpm continuous duty, the 5kW DC motor achieves an output torque of 22.5Nm. For short periods the motor can provide an output power of 8kW at 92 per cent efficiency. An internally fitted encoder provides position or speed monitoring.

To cope with a variety of environmental conditions, the motor is available with ratings from IP20 to IP68. Customised options include power and control signal configurations, flanges, mounting orientation and shaft specification.

As well as for use in rugged vehicles in arduous environments, the motor is also suited to numerous marine applications.
