HIMA presents HICore 1 safety system-on-chip and software

HIMA Paul Hildebrandt GmbH is promoting a versatile package comprising the HICore 1 safety system-on-chip and matching software under the banner Smart Safety Embedded by HIMA. This combination of hardware and software is certified by TUV for safety-critical applications according to IEC 61508 up to SIL3. Developers benefit from significantly reduced effort for certification of their overall system and shorter time to market. The potential application areas of HICore 1 include embedded systems, control functions in mechanical and plant engineering, and logistics.

Safety-critical systems must be functionally safe, and this must be verified by certification. Increasingly functional safety is not only a key selling point but also a substantial time and cost factor for development departments in companies facing a twofold challenge: rising development effort for increasingly complex products and growing safety requirements. Under pressure to cut costs and meet tight product launch deadlines, avoidable certification effort is neither desirable nor economical for modern product development. Pre-certified safety hardware and software are good ways to deal with this.

Dr Stefan Glz, Head of Chip Based Solutions at HIMA, comments: "Using the ultra-miniature TUV-certified HICore 1 safety controller, innovative product and system manufacturers can make their solutions safe and certifiable. For developers, the HICore Solutions package results in significantly less effort because it dramatically simplifies and accelerates TUV acceptance of their own product for safety applications up to IEC 61508 SIL3 or EN ISO 13849 PLe. Time to market can therefore be shortened by 30 to 70 per cent, depending on the size and scope of the project."

Users can determine the configuration of their own HICore solution, from the chip to the finished PCB. HIMA supports them throughout the entire process from specification to TUV acceptance. HICore 1 makes integration of SIL3 safety easy and economical in many sectors, including networked applications. Numerous safe network protocols are already available. The Internet of Things (IoT) concept of secure and highly efficient machine-to-machine communication is also supported. Typical application areas include safety-oriented controllers, safety monitoring of driverless transportation systems, drive systems, logistics and intralogistics, sensors, actuators, and energy generation facilities.
