HK3D brings new 3D printing line to market

As part of the HK Holdings Group, Rugby-based HK3D Solutions has been appointed as a UK production partner of the Markforged brand of 3D printing technology. The innovative new brand marks a paradigm shift in the plastic and metal additive manufacturing sector with a price entry point and production process that breaks the mould.

As a company, the vision of Boston (USA) based Markforged was to empower engineers with the ability to create super-strong finished parts whilst removing the multiple barriers between design and a final product. The company initially came to prominence by developing machines that embed fibreglass, carbon fibre or Kevlar into the Nylon 3D plastic printing process to deliver astounding strength characteristics. Aimed at industry professionals, the Markforged machines offer better strength characteristics than aluminium, and this enables end-users to rapidly turn a concept design into a completed part that can be used in everyday practical applications such as jigs, fixtures, tooling, end use parts and much more.

From a cost perspective, the Markforged line is very accessible, with four machines currently in the line-up. The entry-level machine is available from less than 5000, and the company will also be introducing its first metal 3D printer to the UK in September with an entry cost of less than 90,000. Existing metal additive manufacturing machines generally have a price entry point from 200,000 upwards, so the addition of the Markforged Metal machine marks an exciting opportunity for the UK manufacturing industry.

Commenting upon the addition of the Markforged machines to the HK3D stable, Managing Director, Mr Steven Wilcox says: "The Markforged range is currently available in the UK via on-line ordering, however HK3D is offering a complete service and support network for the brand. For many engineers that are investigating the additive manufacturing route, there will be multiple lines of enquiry and possible concerns when considering new technology.

"Our additive manufacturing experts will alleviate any concerns and take engineers beyond initial enquiry, intuitively guiding customers through the purchasing process, installation, commissioning and also the delivery of full training on the machines and the continually evolving software. The software support is a crucial consideration as the EIGER software on the Markforged machines is rapidly evolving with continual updates and opportunities.

"Furthermore, HK3D will stock the machines, materials and associated consumables for immediate UK delivery. The Markforged Metal X product offers significant benefits over alternate metal additive manufacturing processes. These benefits include health and safety considerations as the system does not use metal powder, it has extremely fast material changeover times for flexible manufacture, a wide selection of materials and of course a price point that is more attractive than anything else in the metal 3D printing sector."

As a premium reseller of 3D printers and additive manufacturing products, HK3D offers the full line of 3D printers, materials, perceptual devices and design tools as part of its integrated 3D print offering.
