NSK is expanding its range of HPS spherical roller bearings so that they are now available with bore sizes of up to 260mm. This enhances NSK's ability to provide users of bearings in tough, demanding environments with continuous operation and minimum maintenance. Fully optimised and uprated, HPS spherical roller bearings are claimed to offer twice the lifespan and a 20 per cent higher limiting speed than conventional spherical roller bearings (SRB). These performance advantages translate into user benefits such as cost and energy savings, plus reduced bearing maintenance.
The improved wear resistance of the new larger size HPS bearings, under high speeds and high mechanical loads, enables them to cope with demanding applications in a wide range of equipment types. Typically these include pumps and compressors, cranes and other hoisting devices, paper machines, mining and extraction equipment technology, and conveyors and table rollers in the steel industry.
Designated as the CAM series, the larger size HPS bearings differ in design from the existing HPS-EA range of SRBs (up to 130mm bore) due to the increased demands placed upon them. They are equipped with a guide ring, giving extremely precise roller guiding, and optimised solid brass retainers that carry higher loads and offer very high wear resistance. In the smaller size EA series these features are achieved through a special surface treatment of the bearing steel plate retainers.
The optimised design features integrated into the HPS- CAM series not only increase the life span and the wear resistance of the bearings; they also increase the dynamic load rating by up to 25 per cent. As a result, the larger size HPS units can allow down-sizing in highly loaded drive assemblies for demanding applications, providing both space and cost savings for users.
