HSL to present at Machinery Safety Alliance seminars

The Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL), which is an agency of the UK's HSE (Health and Safety Executive), will open and present at each machinery safety seminar being organised by the Machinery Safety Alliance in 2012. This therefore provides the perspective of the agency responsible for enforcing UK law on machine safety.

HSL to present at Machinery Safety Alliance seminars

Richard Brooks, an HSL Machinery Safety Specialist, will attend each seminar. He brings with him an important and impartial view, based on the perspective of the HSE inspectors who attend machine safety incidents.

When investigating such incidents, it is apparent that even if existing safety functions may have been well documented, sometimes it is the hazards and functions that nobody has identified or thought about that have played a part in the incident occurring.

Getting safety right is not just about specifying the right products; machinery safety requires a proper proper risk assessment and safety requirement specification, followed by rigorous steps to quantify integrity and eliminate systematic faults.

Richard Brooks will explore other issues relating to this important topic. His perspective, from the public sector looking in on the private sector, will provide some refreshing food for thought for seminar delegates.
