Ensuring secure data transfer and reliable power supply in ever-smaller spaces is the challenge faced by many engineers. To meet this demand, igus has introduced a highly flexible and robust chainflex Ethernet cable. Justin Leonard, e-chain director at igus says: "The new ix industrial connector from our neighbour in the UK, Harting, saves 70 per cent space compared to the previous generation connector." This is a particular advantage for miniature housings, for example in camera systems, WLAN access points, routers or other digital components. Thanks to their special design, chainflex cables also require 50 per cent less space than standard Ethernet cables. In combination, the cable and connector are very well-suited to small installation spaces.
Leonard adds: "The buzzword for a very small bend radii for cables in energy chains is "˜low bending'. This is why the abbreviation LB is assigned by igus to the CFBUS.LB family, as a synonym for the highest mechanical demands."
They can be used for all common bus systems, including as Ethernet CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, Ethercat or Profinet. For example, the CF11 twisted pair data cable has the tightest bend radius available on the market. Thanks to its extremely small bend radii down to 6.8 × d, the high-end chainflex cable can be used in the smallest installation spaces and for deep-freeze applications with temperatures down to -35degC.
Naturally, the CF11 meets the highest industrial demands for continuous movement, such as in pick and place machines and highly dynamic packaging equipment. In terms of service life, this has been proven by extensive tests in the 2,750m ² test laboratory at igus. The CF11 data cable can thus be optimally integrated into the new ix Industrial connector (Type A) from Harting, creating an optimal point-to-point solution for the machine builder, even in a small space.
