igus e-chains now available with 36-month guarantee

igus high-performance e-chains are robust, lightweight and maintenance-free. To underscore their reliability and give users added peace-of-mind, igus now offers a 36-month guarantee on its e-chains, which matches the similar chainflex cable guarantee. The online service life calculator enables users to determine the guaranteed runtime of an e-chain and receive a guarantee certificate automatically.

To do this, users just open the online e-chain service life calculator and enter the dynamic information and the environmental conditions of the application. The calculator then outputs a predicted service life of the e-chain in double strokes. A PDF guarantee certificate is automatically emailed to the user with one click.

A major benefit of the online service calculator is that users can see immediately if they have over-specified an energy chain so it will last longer than the expected lifetime of the machine. Users can easily investigate the performance of alternative e-chains with a view to achieving the required life with a lower-cost product.

Justin Leonard, the chain director at igus UK,comments: "The new guarantee programme gives our customers the added security of being able to design their individual application correctly and always choose the most cost-effective e-chain that works. The guarantee covers the calculated double strokes or 36 months, whichever comes first. Should an energy chain fail due to wear and tear under this guarantee, the customer will receive a free replacement."

To determine the service life of its products, igus tests its products thoroughly under adverse conditions to the point of failure. Over 10billion e-chain test cycles are performed in the 3800m2 laboratory every year. Based on this test data, igus began offering a 36-month guarantee on its chainflex cable range in 2015. igus says that it is the only company in the world to offer a 36-month lifetime guarantee for its energy chains.

The service life calculator uses empirical data from the test laboratory to determine the life of its e-chains in customer applications. Over 4000 tests and more than 7500 programme results are fed into the online tool, and every day more data is added. This enables igus to offer the most accurate statements about the service life of its e-chains. According to igus, the lifetime of energy chains is normally at least 10million movements.
