Industrial Ethernet hubs for fibre optic communications

B&R is expanding the X20 hub system to include a fibre optic module, thereby increasing the distance between decentralised, remote modules up to 2000m.

Industrial Ethernet hubs for fibre optic communications

This modular X20 hub system was developed for Industrial Ethernet use. Different hub devices can be easily configured from a kit. Hub units with two RJ45 connections are available, which are simply lined up together or added to a bus controller.

Compared with copper wiring running over Fast Ethernet, which can only cover distances up to 100m, the new fibre optic module covers distances up to 2000m, representing a major expansion to the system. The underlying standard is 100Base-FX, based on duplex LC technology. No internal downgrading technology is used, which means there is no loss of performance (wire speed). Therefore the fibre optic module is optimally suited for use in Powerlink systems.
