Phoenix Contact is launching industrial tablet PCs with a 13.3-inch touch screen. Even the basic version features IEEE 802.11 a/b/g WiFi capability for connecting to an existing WLAN or via Bluetooth Class 1 and Class 2. Moreover, with the optional expansion upgrade they can also connect to a UMTS network or receive GPRS signals. The tablet PC is equipped with a 1.6GHz Z530 Intel Atom processor or, optionally, with a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz for applications demanding high computing power. The rugged casing is sealed to IP65 so the PC may be used both indoors and outdoors.
Other features of the industrial tablet PC include a watertight USB, audio and RJ45 interfaces. It can also be retrofitted with a barcode scanner or RFID wireless identification system for managing inventories.
Phoenix Contact says the lightweight tablet PC fits comfortably in the hand and is easy to carry using hand straps or a shoulder harness. Two lithium-ion smart rechargeable batteries ensure flexible operation, independent of a power supply. The zero power management, which minimises battery discharge while the PC is idle, ensures that the device always has sufficient power.
