INTORQ spring-applied brakes with low-cost speed sensor option

Designed for the detection of speed and direction of rotation in industrial trucks and brake motors, INTORQ now offer an inductive sensor for their spring-applied brakes. Compared with alternatives of encoders and sensor bearings, the INTORQ speed sensors are low cost, very robust and work over a wide temperature range. Overall dimensions of brakes and brake motors do not change with the addition of this option.

The concept of these speed sensors is based on an inductive sensor working from a brake disc that is modified with teeth on the outside diameter. The open collector output gives 48 or 64 pulses/rev with A and B channels and shaft rotation speeds can be up to 6000 r/min. Speed sensors are available for the BFK457 and 458 series of brakes with torque ratings from 8 to 32Nm.

Unlike encoders, these speed sensors are very robust and can work in ambient temperatures from -20 to +70degC. They are resistant to shocks and dirty environments, in particular brake dust. Where a speed signal is needed on a machine that incorporates a spring applied brake, these INTORQ speed sensors are a simple and economic option.
