A Swedish bakery, Baginto, has improved productivity and quality by retrofitting Lenze SMV inverter drives to its mixing and dough preparation equipment.
Baginto AB, a major bakery in Sweden, has upgraded its mixing and dough preparation equipment by installing Lenze SMV inverter drives. The IP65 rating of the SMV drives enabled them to be mounted directly to the machine frame close to the motors - and without the cost and complexity associated with control cabinets. The resulting variable-speed control has improved productivity and the consistent quality of the baked products.
This investment means that many areas of the bakery are now controlled by Lenze variable-speed drives. Supplied as retrofits, the SMV inverters provide smooth torque operation and fine speed control in areas such as flow mixing and dough folding. The SMV sensorless vector inverter is a high-performance drive with an IP65 enclosure, available in power ratings from 0.37-7.5kW and for either single- or three-phase supplies. A simple keypad and a plug-in memory module holding all the drive settings make using it easy. There is also an optional lockable isolator.
Mounting the drive on a machine close to the motor gives several advantages. Clearly there is no need for a new cabinet or for space in an existing cabinet. In addition the motor power cables are shorter and usually EMC regulations can be met without requiring shielded cables, thereby saving installation time and purchase costs. At Baginto some machines are moved around as part of the production process; the SMV drives stay with the machines and operators can make manual adjustments during production using the keypad.
Baginto actually uses two types of Lenze inverter: the SMV for machinery where there is no panel and the IP20-enclosed smd where a panel is available. Both operate in a similar way and effectively make a single drive possible for all the bakery requirements. Baginto has increased productivity with minimal disruption and, more importantly, without having to make a heavy investment.
