Kontron CP3010-SA boosts performance of CompactPCI systems

At the SPS/IPC/DRIVES trade show Kontron is bringing a new rugged performance-per-watt champion to low-power 3U CompactPCI systems with the launch of the long-term available CP3010-SA CompactPCI processor board. The new Kontron CP3010-SA is equipped with System-on-Chip (SoC) Intel Atom E3800 processors - formerly codenamed "Bay Trail' - and quadruples the performance in the low-power class of Intel Atom processor-based Kontron CompactPCI systems without increasing the thermal budget.

This makes the new board a suitable drop-in replacement even for Intel Core 2 Duo processor based CPCI systems. The most impressive feature is the three times higher graphics performance compared with previous Intel Atom processor-based designs coupled with an excellent TDP (thermal design power) value. The special heatsink design optimised for convection-cooled environments makes the CP3010-SA suitable for all applications where fans are not desired or not possible.

The new EN50155-compliant CompactPCI processor board features soldered SoC and memory and offers high resistance against shock and vibration, making it suited for harsh environments. Moreover, it supports an extended temperature range from -40degC up to +85degC. Typical application areas can be found in industries such as transportation, automation, energy, military or aerospace.

By building applications based on the new Intel Atom E3800 processors-based CompactPCI board, system engineers and system integrators benefit from a flexible, modular system structure based on standard building blocks that can be assembled according to specific performance levels as well as extension requirements. The standardisation also paves the way for designing systems with a lifecycle beyond that of the components, so that ultra long-term availability concepts can be achieved with functional and footprint-identical components contributing to a high degree of investment security.

The feature set in detail

The EN50155-compliant Kontron CP3010-SA comes with up to quad core 1.9GHz Intel Atom processor performance and up to 8GB energy-efficient DDR3L memory. Integrating the new Intel Gen7 graphics, it delivers excellent 2D, 3D, and video capabilities to up to two independent displays connected via 2× DisplayPort and VGA. The CompactPCI processor board boasts a comprehensive set of interfaces including 3× Gbit Ethernet, 1× USB 3.0, 3× USB 2.0 plus CAN bus and 2× COM ports. For data and software storage it provides 2× SATA interfaces used for an onboard CFAST socket, which can optionally be replaced by up to 64GB soldered SATA Flash and a HDD/SSD option on the extension. The new 3U CompactPCI CPU board is now available as single slot (4HP) or dual slot (8HP) version. It comes with comprehensive board support packages for Linux, the complete Microsoft Windows range, VxWorks and QNX.
