Kontron's digital signage offering is fully compliant with the OPS specification created by Intel to help standardise the design and development of digital signage applications that must integrate a diverse range of display technologies. The computing foundation utilises the Kontron COM Express basic Computer-on-Module (COM) COMe-bIP6, which gives OEMs a modular approach that enables optimised and cost-effective scalability of application-specific implementations in terms of graphics and processing performance. COMs also offer a clear migration path that developers can source for future digital signage upgrades, thereby future-proofing customers' technology investments. It integrates the powerful 3rd generation Intel Core processor and the Mobile Intel QM77 Express Chipset.

Kevin Rhoads, Vice President, Embedded Products Business Unit, Kontron, says: "Kontron's modular OPS-compliant solution significantly simplifies the integration of a full range of advanced features for complex digital signage systems. It enables OEMs to quickly develop intelligent, media-rich digital signage. In addition, business profitability improvements can be achieved through remote management capabilities that enable easier upgrades and the scheduling of repairs."

Raj Maini, Worldwide Marketing Director, Visual Retailing, Retail Solutions Division at Intel, adds: "Kontron's new OPS-compliant solution is further proof of the adoption and deployment of OPS in the digital signage market. Applications built using Kontron's solution with the latest processor series from Intel greatly improves integrated graphics capabilities to display high-resolution content, thus meeting the needs of graphics-intensive digital signage applications."

Kontron's digital signage system features a comprehensive range of externally accessible I/O including Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45, two USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI connector and audio jack. It also supports OPS JAE interconnect I/O such as HDMI, DisplayPort and USB 2.0 and 3.0. Integrated Intel vPro technology provides enhanced functionality such as improved security with Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) and increased manageability through Intel Active Management Technology (AMT). It also features 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi for wireless connectivity, and offers up to 8GB of dual channel DDR3-1600 non-ECC system memory and 80GB mSATA HD integrated storage.

Kontron is scheduled to release the product in Q3 2012. To find out more about the open pluggable specification (OPS)-compliant digital signage system, visit the website at www.kontron.com.
