As Kuka celebrates its 35th anniversary in the UK, the European robot manufacturer has won another accolade for the Titan six-axis industrial robot. The giant robot, which has a 1000kg payload capacity and reach of more than 4m, has been awarded a prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design.
Judges from Germany's Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen praised Kuka's engineering team for producing a heavy-duty robot that creatively combined a robust, sleek design with nimble features. Its muscular appearance not only visually reflected a powerful physique, but also conveyed the impression of a flexible and agile workhorse, devoid of excess weight, the panel concluded.
Specially designed to automate a wide variety of heavy duty handling tasks, the Titan is used primarily in the automotive, glass, construction and foundry sectors. It has a working envelope of 78m3.
Kuka's anniversary year will be marked with a number of events, which begin with a system partners' day at its Halesowen headquarters on 28 and 29 January 2009. The open days will include robot demonstrations and tours of Kuka's assembly hall and training facilities.
