CAN in Automation (CiA) is releasing version 3.0 of the LSS specification (CiA 305). It standardises the node-ID and bit-rate assignment via the CANopen network. In the past, there were some potential implementation-related incompatibilities, now resolved with the new release.
The document now describes the local layer setting state machine and gives additional implementation guidelines. LSS is often used in outdoor applications, where CANopen devices provide only the CAN interface to configure node-ID and bit-rate. CiA does not recommend the use of SDO (service data object) services for this purpose.
