The World Cup in Brazil begins on June 12 and is a public festival over the world. The championship will be played in 12 cities, including Rio de Janeiro at the world-famous stadium Estádio do Maracanã that will host both the opening match and final.
Maracanã was built for the World Cup in 1950 and was until 1992 the world's largest arena. Prior to the FIFA World Cup a major renovation was done of Maracanã to improve visibility and reinforce the design, which means that nearly 80,000 spectators could be on site at the final. ESAB was selected as partner of welding consumables, welding machines and accessories for the extensive reconstruction project, where technical support and know-how was a key factor for the decision.
