Light curtains operate in cross-beam or parallel-beam mode

The Smartscan 8000 Series integrated safety light curtain system for end-of-line packaging machines is suitable for guarding the conveyor entry/exit zones of potentially dangerous machinery where the system needs to differentiate between product loads and people. Typical applications include palletisers/de-palletisers, stretch wrappers and pallet shrink wrappers.

A particular set of muting modules is chosen by the customer to suit either a product exit or entry/exit application. The modules bolt directly onto the main light curtain and link to it with a cable and connectors.

One clever feature incorporated into the Smartscan 8000 Series is a provision to switch the muting configuration between cross-beam and parallel-beam modes. The internal control system provides a multiplicity of control functions, which, in combination, will suit just about every packaging machine application.

The Smartscan 8000 Series light curtains are sealed to IP66 for harsh, wet and dusty environments, making them suitable for use in food processing plants, breweries and dairies where the equipment is regularly cleaned with pressure sprayed water.

Long-range detection

A 50m scanning range option is also available for scanning the perimeter of a machine system through mirrors if two or three sides of a machine need to be safeguarded with a single light curtain.

Smartscan is offering, free of charge, its 8000 Series Handbook that not only provides comprehensive product information but also includes a major section describing packaging machine safety system methodology and many of the more common solutions to packaging machine safety problems.
