Linear guideway boasts 149-tonne static load capacity

At the Machine Building, Drives & Automation exhibition at the NEC (13-14 February 2008), Schaeffler's Linear Technology division (stand 2004) will be showcasing its range of linear recirculating roller bearing and guideway assemblies, the RUE-E / RUE-E-KT-L series.

Linear guideway boasts 149-tonne static load capacity

New to the range is the RUE 100 E-L, a profiled rail linear guidance system that is suitable for large production machinery, including high-efficiency machine tools and presses. The dynamic load capacity is 63 tonnes and the static load carrying capacity is a remarkable 149 tonnes, which is said to be twice as high as any competitive systems can take. The unit provides smooth, uniform running characteristics and high dynamics, making it useful for precision movement of heavy loads. Stroke lengths of up to 30m are available.

Even at these high load carrying capacities, the unit still offers a compact design so that, apart from the required mounting faces, there is no need to take account of any special data for integration in the machine structure.

Machine builders and designers of production machinery can now benefit from a range of linear guides that offer high load ratings, robust design, high rigidity, high precision and excellent sealing. Speeds of up to 4m/s are possible and accelerations of up to 100m/s2. The range is modular and so customers can select from a range of accessories to suit their application.

Improved reliability

The range also benefits from Schaeffler's patented injection moulding technology, which enables 'perfect' rolling element guidance in the load and return zones, optimised transitions and exceptional running characteristics with very low stroke pulsation. Schaeffler has also reduced the number of components in the design, resulting in more robust, reliable rolling element guidance.

Labyrinth seals on the rolling element recirculation system improve protection against contamination. Uniform lubrication is also guaranteed due to a completely closed and sealed lubrication duct.

The design of the guides also incorporates an efficient sealing concept, comprising standard seals (single-lip upper seals, double-lip lower sealing strips and double-lip end wipers). The end plates fitted as standard in front of the contact end wipers provide extra protection against coarse contaminants, which means the contact end wipers retain their full performance capability even in environments with fine, often aggressive contaminants. Other sealing arrangements are available as an option.

Schaeffler Group says its extensive range of linear bearing products enables it to offer an equivalent to any other supplier's products. For more information, visit www.schaeffler.co.uk.
