Locking solution speeds cycle of urban deliveries

For city-based logistics, an industry where delivery boxes are opened and closed an average of 300 times per day, PAZTIR’s smart access solutions are said to be saving up to 50 minutes per vehicle per day. A key factor for urban delivery vehicles, where both delivery system security and speed of access are  vital, is the cargo box itself. To realise enhanced security and connectivity for its cargo bike boxes, PAZTIR® needed a lightweight locking product that would connect with the bikes’ system device and be robust enough to remain secure whilst withstanding the typical urban challenges of shockloading and vibration. 

PAZTIR’s customers can connect up to 6 locks to 1 Paztir IoT device, and its chosen system uses either the Southco R4-EM or EM-05 device, depending on specific end design requirements. The R4-EM features a microprocessor controlled gear motor with low power requirements and is said to deliver proven electronic access control in a compact, lightweight package. Because it provides easy push-to-close operation and simple installation, the R4-EM is said to be well suited for users transitioning from mechanical to electronic access. Being compact, it integrates easily into existing designs says Southco. The lock features an optional micro switch to provide feedback on latch status as well as multiple mounting configurations. 

It can also be fitted with an optional sensor to identify when doors are open or closed, and has a manual override which can be used as backup for opening. Southco states that its locking solutions have added value to PAZTIR’s system by making it more secure and streamlined as well as enabling their system to become more competitive, by better meeting customers needs to maximise the performance of their delivery fleets.
