Long-life parts washer improves production efficiency

Effective parts washing is an important process prior to surface finishing or as a means of protecting components against corrosion, and a large automotive producer felt it had room for improvement in this regard. This Russian company's product programme includes trucks, trailers, buses, tractors with sales mainly in the home market and to other post-Soviet states.

The cleaning product it had been using on its crankshaft production line only performed well over a short period. Within a matter of just days, it was becoming contaminated with oil and other deposits. Not only did this compromise the crankshafts' resistance to corrosion, but it also added to operating costs as the fluid required frequent renewal.

Master Chemical Europe proposed a solution. In addition to cutting and grinding fluids, the company sells a wide choice of surface treatments including cleaners, pre-treatments and corrosion inhibitors. All are formulated to keep manufacturers environmentally compliant, running at peak performance and ultimately more profitable.

The European wing of The Master Chemical Corporation, Master Chemical Europe, has its headquarters in East Anglia in the UK and is responsible for the development and marketing of metalworking fluids for the European market. For this purpose it has its own team of research chemists and dedicated R&D laboratories.

As a solution to this customer's parts-washing problem, Master Chemical Europe recommended trialling TRIM CLEAN 2029. This proven product is a one-step parts-washing fluid and corrosion inhibitor that is designed for use in spray washers and immersion tanks. It is formulated to remove heavy soils and provide up to four weeks of indoor corrosion inhibition on steel and cast iron parts.

Containing no silicates or other high pH additives, TRIM CLEAN 2029 is compatible with ultra-filtration systems and bio-remediation. It is widely used throughout the manufacturing industry in cabinet-style spray washers for cleaning steel and cast iron as well as for washing parts made from stainless steel, titanium and many aluminium alloys.

To put it through its paces, the Russian manufacturer trialled TRIM CLEAN 2029 in a Bosch spray washer operating at a pressure of 4.5bar. The product proved highly effective at cleaning and protecting the parts at a concentration of between 2.5 and 3 per cent.

Machine Shop Manager noted: "In fact the first application of TRIM CLEAN 2029 kept its cleaning power for two months without any deterioration in performance, and as a result, we have completely changed over to Master Chemical Europe's product to treat our crankshafts."
