IFM Electronic is launching the Efector Octavis VKV, a self-contained vibration monitor with built-in switching output and a transmitter function. This all-in-one unit is said to make it easier and more cost-effective to monitor vibration on machinery.
Knowing how to set up such a device is made easier by reference to the international standard ISO 10816 Mechanical vibration - Evaluation of machine vibration by measurements on non-rotating parts. The standard covers machine types ranging from reciprocating pumps to industrial machines, steam turbines and generators.
Once the Efector Octavis VKV is firmly attached to the machine, the rms vibration (in mm/s or inches/s) is set on the first ring, followed by the time delay on the second ring. The settings can then be locked in place.
Small and easily configured, the Efector Octavis VKV reduces the need for specialist knowledge or expensive outsourcing. The output will switch if the preset vibration velocity is reached, or the additional 4-20mA signal can display a value or be monitored centrally.
