Machinery Directive Harmonised Standards - new list

The previous list, published on 26 May 2010, did not include EN ISO 13855:2010 Safety of machinery - Positioning of safeguards with respect to the approach speeds of parts of the human body, which was published on 31 May 2010, but the new list does.

Another important addition to the new list is EN ISO 12100:2010 Safety of machinery "" General principles for design "" Risk assessment and risk reduction, which combines the old EN ISO 12100 and EN ISO 14121-1.

Most of the changes to the list involve Type C standards (ie those applicable to specific classes of machine), though there are also some important additions relating to noise emissions, hydraulics and pneumatics.

Status of EN 954-1

EN 954-1 is not included in the current list [see this article EN 954-1 harmonised to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC - Ed]. However, Marie Poidevin of CEN has previously confirmed to MachineBuilding.net "In case of future omission, you can take for granted that the communication done by the EC in December on EN 954-1 is still valid and will remain valid up to Dec 2011." EN 954-1:1996 is mentioned in the list in a note alongside the entry for EN ISO 13849-1:2008 Safety of machinery "" Safety-related parts of control systems "" Part 1: General principles for design (ISO 13849-1:2006), where the date of supersession of EN 954-1 is given as 31 December 2011.
