Machinery Directive Harmonised Standards list, 9 September 2016

Although the latest list contains only a relatively small number of new, updated and amended standards, there are some important changes and it should be noted that the dates of supersession of a presumption of conformity for the standards being replaced are, in some cases, very soon or the old standard has already been replaced.

The information below has been extracted with care from the official list, but it remains the reader's responsibility to check the OJ list via the link above, and also to check the Machinery Directive (MD) page on the European Commission website for any newer lists.

New and updated harmonised standards and amendments published in the list for the first time are as below.

Standards developed by CEN

There are no new or amended A-Type standards developed by CEN.

Changes to B-Type standards harmonised to the Machinery Directive

• EN ISO 14122-1:2016 Safety of machinery - Permanent means of access to machinery - Part 1: Choice of fixed means and general requirements of access (ISO 14122-1:2016), which supersedes EN ISO 14122-1:2001on 31 December 2016
• EN ISO 14122-2:2016 Safety of machinery - Permanent means of access to machinery - Part 2: Working platforms and walkways (ISO 14122-2:2016), which supersedes EN ISO 14122-2:2001 on 31 December 2016
• EN ISO 14122-3:2016 Safety of machinery - Permanent means of access to machinery - Part 3: Stairs, stepladders and guard-rails (ISO 14122-3:2016), which supersedes EN ISO 14122-3:2001 on 31 December 2016
• EN ISO 14122-4:2016 Safety of machinery - Permanent means of access to machinery - Part 4: Fixed ladders (ISO 14122-4:2016), which supersedes EN ISO 14122-4:2004 on 31 December 2016
• EN ISO 19353:2016 Safety of machinery - Fire prevention and fire protection (ISO 19353:2015), which supersedes EN 13478:2001+A1:2008 on 31 July 2016

Changes to C-Type standards harmonised to the Machinery Directive

• EN ISO 4254-14:2016 Agricultural machinery - Safety - Part 14: Bale wrappers (ISO 4254-14:2016)
• EN ISO 8528-13:2016 Reciprocating internal combustion engine driven alternating current generating sets - Part 13: Safety (ISO 8528-13:2016), which supersedes EN 12601:2010 on 30 June 2017
• EN ISO 11145:2016 Optics and photonics - Lasers and laser-related equipment - Vocabulary and symbols (ISO 11145:2016), which supersedes EN ISO 11145:2008 on 30 September 2016
• EN ISO 11850:2011/A1:2016 Machinery for forestry - General safety requirements (ISO 11850:2011), 1st amendment, which superseded the unamended standard on 31 August 2016
• EN 16743:2016 Food processing machinery - Automatic industrial slicing machines - Safety and hygiene requirements
• EN 16774:2016 Safety of machinery - Safety requirements for steel converter and associated equipment
• EN ISO 17916:2016 Safety of thermal cutting machines (ISO 17916:2016)
• EN ISO 20361:2015 Liquid pumps and pump units - Noise test code - Grades 2 and 3 of accuracy (ISO 20361:2015), which superseded EN ISO 20361:2009 on 31 December 2015

Standards developed by CENELEC

There are no new or amended A-Type or B-Type standards developed by CENELEC.

Changes to C-Type standards harmonised to the Machinery Directive

• EN 60335-2-8:2015/A1:2016 Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-8: Particular requirements for shavers, hair clippers and similar appliances (IEC 60335-2-8:2012/A1:2015 (Modified)), 1st amendment, which supersedes the unamended standard on 28 December 2018
• EN 60335-2-37:2002/A12:2016 Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-37: Particular requirements for commercial electric deep fat fryers (IEC 60335-2-37:2002), 12th amendment, which supersedes the previously amended standard on 25 January 2019
• EN 60335-2-89:2010/A1:2016 Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Particular requirements for commercial refrigerating appliances with an incorporated or remote refrigerant condensing unit or compressor, 1st amendment, (IEC 60335-2-89:2010/A1:2012 (Modified))
• EN 60335-2-102:2016 Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety -Particular requirements for gas, oil and solid-fuel burning appliances having electrical connections (IEC 60335-2-102:2004 (Modified), IEC 60335-2-102:2004/A1:2008 (Modified) + A1:2008 (Modified) and IEC 60335-2-102:2004/A2:2012 (Modified))
• EN 62841-2-11:2016 Electric motor-operated hand-held tools, transportable tools and lawn and garden machinery - Safety - Particular requirements for hand-held reciprocating saws (IEC 62841-2-11:2015 (Modified)), which supersedes EN 60745-2-11:2010 on 23 December 2019
