The European Commission is planning to update the Machinery Directive to improve safety and take account of the latest innovations, particularly in terms of information technology. The EC's proposed revision aligns the Machinery Directive with EU harmonised legislation on product health and safety, and also tackles the challenges that may arise from technical progress in digitisation.
Already feedback on the proposals has been received, all of which can be read online, and now there is a public consultation period so comments can be received from a wide range of stakeholders. The consultation is aimed at individuals, businesses, consultants, academia, Notified Bodies, public authorities, standards bodies, trade unions and other organisations. Contributions to the consultation will be received up until midnight (Brussels time) on 30 August 2019.
