Machinery safety seminars from the PPMA - summer 2015

The PPMA is running two machinery safety technical seminars in August 2015 covering robotic safety and the Machinery Directive. Other seminars and training courses are available throughout the year at venues across the UK and Ireland - see the PPMA website for the full Seminar and Training Programme.

Machinery safety seminars from the PPMA - summer 2015

Robotic Safety for Integrators

Robots are usually supplied as partly completed machinery, requiring the integrator to be responsible for the CE marking of the cell. This seminar discusses some of the issues regarding CE marking of complex assemblies, and the requirements of the various standards including EN ISO 10218 (BS EN ISO 10218 in the UK). Areas covered include hazard identification and risk reduction, safeguarding and safety requirements.

Aimed at companies designing, manufacturing, purchasing and using machinery that incorporates robots, the seminar addresses many of the issues relating to CE marking of complex assemblies. In particular, the Robotic Safety for Integrators seminar covers these two important international standards:

  • BS EN ISO 10218-1:2011 Robots and robotic devices. Safety requirements for industrial robots. Robots
  • BS EN ISO 10218-2:2011 Robots and robotic devices. Safety requirements for industrial robots. Robot systems and integration

Other topics covered include CE marking, hazard identification, risk assessment and risk reduction, safety and safeguarding, safety requirements, and safety-related control systems.

The Robotic Safety for Integrators seminar takes place on 19 August 2015 at the Marriott Hotel, Leicester. Follow the link to find out more and reserve places on the Robotic Safety for Integrators seminar.

Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC

The Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been in use since 31 December 2009 and this version includes some significant differences from the previous directive, with serious implications for machine builders, companies creating assemblies of machines and importers of machines. Manufacturers of partly completed machines now have to comply with specific requirements as well as issuing a Declaration of Incorporation.

While there are potential costs associated with implementing the new requirements, such as those for the fixing systems of fixed guards, these costs may be offset by the use of technological solutions for achieving equivalent or higher levels of safeguarding.

Machine importers will be affected by the requirements for the technical file to be located in Europe and for the Declaration of Conformity to list the name and address of the machine manufacturer, as well as the contact details of the authorised representative in the EU and the person responsible for providing the technical file in the event of an accident.

The Machinery Directive seminar will be of value to manufacturers, those who assemble complex assemblies (production lines), integrators and those purchasing equipment; it is very important to know where the responsibilities lie.

The Machinery Directive seminar takes place on 26 August 2015 at the Marriott Hotel, Manchester. Follow the link to find out more and reserve places on the Machinery Directive course.
