Machinery safety training courses and workshops from Pilz

Pilz Automation Technology is now taking bookings for three machinery safety training courses and workshops during the summer of 2018.

Machinery safety training courses and workshops from Pilz

1. Safety Design Incorporating EN ISO 13849-1/EN 62061

This one-day course on 24 July enables delegates to develop a greater understanding of the processes and two key standards relating to safety control system specification, design and validation.

The Pilz PAScal Software Tool Safety Calculator will be utilised during the course; this tool simply and quickly calculates the SIL and PL of alternative design concepts and the results can be evaluated for cost-efficiency.

By the end of the course delegates will be aware of the relevant standards related to safety control systems, understand the necessary process from assessment to validation when designing or modifying safety-related control systems, understand the key architectural structures and alternatives in detailed safety control system design, and know how to calculate the critical parameters related to safety control systems design in order to achieve the desired Performance Level.

2. Risk Assessment Workshop

Another one-day course, the workshop on 7 August explains why a risk assessment is necessary and a fundamental aspect of machinery safety, as well as the first step towards complying with the legal requirements (Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) and standards. Participants will be led through the hazard identification and risk assessment processes for machinery with the aid of pictures and videos. In addition, delegates see how how to evaluate risks and learn techniques for applying suitable risk reduction measures.

The risk assessment workshop covers the following:

  • Directives and standards for risk assessment
  • Application of the various assessment methods
  • Hazard Rating Number (HRN) system
  • Risk matrix
  • Control measures
  • Risk reduction and residual risk
  • Established methods of risk assessment
  • Practical examples

3. Machinery Directive incorporating CE marking

Taking place on 18 September, the Machinery Directive course gives delegates a detailed understanding of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and the requirements relating to CE marking.

Delegates will gain the knowledge to determine which machinery falls under the scope of the Machinery Directive and requires CE Marking, as well as learning about the responsibilities of machine manufacturers, operators, importers and designers with regards to CE Marking. In addition, delegates will benefit from a clear understanding of the CE Marking process and the associated technical requirements to ensure compliance.

Although the main focus of the course is the Machinery Directive, delegates will also learn about some of the other Directives that may be applicable to machinery, including Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Low Voltage (LVD), Pressure Equipment (PED) and Atmosphere Explosives (ATEX).

The above scheduled courses take place at the Pilz training facility in Corby, Northamptonshire, but note that Pilz can also run courses at locations that are convenient for customers. Furthermore, if a company has specific training requirements, Pilz can tailor the course content to suit the needs of the attendees.
