Maxon Motor achieves ISO 13485 quality standard

Already claimed to be the only major manufacturer to offer an off-the-shelf range of fully sterilisable drives and gearheads, the "Maxon medical' business unit supplies high-precision microdrives for use in diagnostics, therapy, surgery, prosthetics, laboratory technology, dental technology and pharmaceuticals applications.

These units are commonly used in projects requiring high performance and absolute reliability in a very small space, including infusion pumps, endoscopes and dialysis machines, as well as new-generation hand tools for bone surgery and dentistry.

This new ISO accreditation confirms Maxon's reputation for safety and dependability in critical applications, and ensures all procedures are fully documented to guarantee traceability.

However, as Maxon Motor UK chief executive Angelo Guttoriello explains, in-depth quality systems are nothing new to a company with an impressive list of accreditations for uncompromising industries: "Maxon has a long tradition of quality systems. The company has held ISO 9001 certification for over twenty years, while the ISO 14001 environmental standard has been successfully anchored in our procedures and decisions since 2006.

"We hope that having full medical accreditation to add to the capabilities of our microdrive and gearhead units will open up even more possibilities for engineers designing new medical technology.
