Stemmer Imaging is introducing the miniature, lightweight IDS uEYE XS industrial vision camera that features a USB 2.0 interface. Weighing just 12g and measuring approximately 23 x 26.5 x 21.5mm, the camera benefits from a robust magnesium housing, 5 Mpixel colour imaging and a range of automatic functions normally only found in digital cameras for the consumer market. The robust construction, small size, USB interface, Mini B USB 2.0 connector and integrated power supply mean the camera is easy to integrate even in harsh industrial environments.
Automatic image control functions, including auto white balance, auto gain and auto exposure time, are performed in the camera itself. This considerably reduces demands on the CPU, while also enabling easy processing of images captured independently of the PC system. With exposure compensation, backlight compensation, photometry and anti-flicker function options, there is immense scope for adapting the automatic image control, making the XS suitable for ATM, kiosk and embedded systems, as well as medical engineering, microscopy and access control.
The IDS uEYE XS offers a choice of seven image formats: 5 Mpixel (2592 x 1944), 3 Mpixel, Full HD, UXGA (1600 x 1200), 1.2 Mpixel, 720p and VGA. The frame rate is freely adjustable (such as for long exposures), and 15 frames per second can be captured in JPEG mode at full resolution. Frame rates as high as 30 fps can be achieved using binning or subsampling. There is also a live video capability operating at 15 frames per second at full 5 Mpixel resolution.
Stemmer Imaging says the integrated auto focus operates at any distance above 10cm, either automatically or manually using the software. The current focus position can also be read using the associated API function. A digital zoom is also provided.
Supplied with the camera, the comprehensive, well-proven IDS Software Suite includes drivers, tools and interfaces. This makes it quick and easy to integrate the camera into a wide range of different applications.
