Miniature switch comes with a choice of actuation forces

Texim Europe is now offering the RAFI Micon 5 miniature tactile switches in which the click varies from a gentle to a 'distinctly sportive' sound, depending on the type used. This makes it possible to tailor the look and feel of an input device to the style of the overall system.

With a basic size of only 5.1 x 6.4 mm, the Micon 5 is the smallest of all RAFI's switches and is said to set the benchmark in miniaturisation without compromising switching reliability. Excellent tactile and acoustic properties are also important features.

The new series has been designed for use under overlays in membrane keyboards or under individual key caps, giving designers the freedom to select a switch that will last for a product's lifetime.

With an extremely small footprint (minimum grid spacing 5.72 x 7.95mm), the Micon 5 still offers actuation forces from 2.7-6.9N. The design is fully enclosed and incorporates gold contacts for maximum switching reliability in hostile environments. The working life ranges from 250,000 to 1million operations, depending on the selected operating force. Moreover, the materials used made it possible to extend the operating temperature to a range of -40 to +90degC.

Since the Micon 5 keyswitches are usually combined with other components on a common printed circuit board, designers can adjust the height with plug-on plungers. Keycaps with light conductors are also available so that various illuminated options can be chosen.

The Micon 5 is available in SMD-J or THT pin versions; it is delivered in either blister reel (SMD version) or tube (pin version) packaging. RAFI offers the Micon 5 as a single component or installed into customer-specific systems.
