Miniature touchscreen HMI has the option of a Soft-PLC
Lenze is launching the EL103 miniature HMI has a front panel that is significantly smaller than a CD case. This latest addition to Lenze's range of Windows CE-based HMIs measures just 130 x 104 x 34mm yet it is a full colour touchscreen TFT display with 320 x 240 pixel resolution and IP65 protection. Options include a Soft-PLC that creates a truly economic control panel. The EL103, which is part of a range of HMIs that extends to 10.4inches, is useful where visualisation and operation are needed directly at the operator station. It can replace larger text displays previously used on machines, as well as simple graphics displays.
The performance and specification of the EL103 are not limited by the small size; the bright 3.5inch colour display is LED backlit. Interfaces are Ethernet, USB and CAN, plus there is an SD card slot for memory expansion and easy archiving of data. The energy-efficient XScale processor requires neither fans nor batteries to buffer the real-time clock and only uses 5W of power. Buffer time is two weeks.
Lenze says that the optional Soft-PLC, which comes with free software, includes a maintenance-free UPS for storing residual PLC data and it can therefore take on additional control tasks. 32MB of Flash memory and 64MB of RAM are available. The Soft-PLC is programmed to the common standard IEC 61131 and makes a local control point that is both powerful and economical.
Free VisiWinNET visualisation software from Lenze is optimised for use on the EL103. Following selection of the device in a menu, the user can choose the required device driver in the VisiWinNET project wizard and then set the corresponding parameters. With VisiWinNET, user-friendly visualisation applications with diverse display options for text and graphics can conveniently be created on the EL 103. Universal language selection, a sophisticated status message system, as well as powerful recipe management round off the visualisation features.
