MiniTec supplies laser welding system for solar collectors

MiniTec Switzerland has delivered its latest version of laser welding system to Velux Magyarorszag in Fertod, Hungary. The Velux Group has manufacturing companies in 11 countries and is one of the strongest brands in the global building materials sector. The Velux product programme also contains roof-mounted thermal solar panels.

In 2010 Velux will further develop and strengthen its production of thermal solar panels in Fertod, as Istvan Konya, the Velux project manager explains: "The laser welding machine from MiniTec and SunLaser offers a very high process reliability combined with optimal production speed and efficiency." The complete laser welding machine will be delivered to Hungary and assembled in the summer of 2010.

Stefan Brandle, the Managing Director of SunLaser Consulting GmbH, states: "The laser welding systems from MiniTec and SunLaser are able to produce absorbers in up to 60 seconds." Frank Weyermann, the Managing Director of MiniTec in Switzerland, adds: "The combination of our extensive experience in laser welding for the solar industry, together with the excellent quality and service, makes us an estimated partner to all our clients."

Solar Thermal Centre of Competence

MiniTec has recently opened what is claimed to be the world's first Solar Thermal Centre of Competence, in partnership with SunLaser Consulting GmbH. Located at its Waldmohr facility in Germany, a demonstration fabrication line, including state-of-the-art laser welding, will serve as a competence centre to teach best practices in solar thermal panel production.

The centre will provide a platform for customer demonstrations, training and practical experience in collector fabrication, new product development, and to support the continued improvement of assembly methods based on empirical evidence. Additionally, MiniTec can help customers replicate an entire fabrication line as part of a pilot production facility, including machinery, preferred components, and certification.
