MOTIONLINE CAT7: high-speed Industrial Ethernet in drag chains

The new MOTIONLINE CAT7 Industrial Ethernet cable from Nexans has been developed to meet the high data transmission demands of the automation industry. It provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet capability in a flexible wear and fatigue-resistant cable designed specifically for drag chain applications.

The new cable can withstand temperatures of up to +80degC. It is also oil and chemical-resistant, halogen-free, flame-resistant, and highly abrasion-proof. With a maximum signal frequency of 600 megahertz, it is suitable for applications such as the connection of high-resolution, high-speed cameras for process monitoring and quality assurance.

The CAT7 cable is well suited for drag chains due to its small bending radius - a minimum of 10 times its diameter. Thanks to an elaborate shield design, the highly flexible cables allow trouble-free data transmission with the high-performance variant capable of 5 million bending cycles at 12 times its diameter. The overall braided shield is made of copper, with a braided foil shield and an aluminium foil wrapped around each wire pair. For lower mechanical loads, an alternative model is available without a braided shielding around individual wire pairs, capable of at least two million bending cycles at the same bending radius.

Both MOTIONLINE CAT7 drag chain cable variants have been tested at the Nexans Motion Application Centre. They are RoHS-compliant (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and certified to UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and CSA (Canadian Standards Association).

Nexans is showing the MOTIONLINE CAT7 10 Gigabit Industrial Ethernet cable for drag chain applications at SPS IPC Drives 2015 in Nuremberg, November 24-26 2015, hall 5, booth 130. Go to www.nexans.com for further details.
