Nord Drive Systems says that its new IE5+ motor range "Offers a constant high efficiency in a hygienic design that raises the LogiDrive concept for intralogistics to a new level with regard to energy efficiency" and thus provides a reduced cost of ownership. The company's latest generation products feature lower losses than the current IE4 series, and its unventilated smooth motor achieves an efficiency that, at times, is stated to be "Significantly above efficiency class IE5 across a wide torque range, and is suitable for operation in the partial load rang".
The compact IE5+ motor offers a high power density with less installation space and will be initially launched in power ranges from 0.35 to 1.1kW with continuous torque from 1.6Nm to 4.8Nm and speeds from 0 to 2,100min-1. Direct motor attachment as well as NEMA and IEC motor options are available, and the motor concept will be gradually extended out across the wider range. NORD says that the IE5+ motors are well suited for use in hygiene-sensitive and harsh environments because they are easy to clean, corrosion-resistant and washdown capable. NORD offers nsd tupH surface treatment and IP69K protection as options on the new range, as well as an integral mechanical brake: an integrated encoder is fitted as part of standard equipment.
The new IE5+ synchronous motor can be combined with all NORD gear units and drive electronics as a modular system, and supplements its LogiDrive concept. The standardised geared motor variants - consisting of an energy-saving synchronous motor, a 2-stage helical bevel gear unit and a NORDAC LINK frequency inverter - have been specially developed for use in intralogistics, parcel logistics and airport technology, offering users a balance of energy efficiency and a reduction in variants. The decentralised LogiDrive systems are stated to be efficient and easy to service thanks to plug-and-play technology. The entire system has a modular design, so all component parts of it can be individually serviced to reduce maintenance and repair costs.
The new range is compact to save space and is also light in weight thanks to an aluminium housing. NORD says that the design of the IE5+ motor and its frequency inverter means that the same motor type can be used worldwide, irrespective of mains voltage available or local energy efficiency regulations. The IE5+ synchronous motor and the respective LogiDrive systems are available from the second quarter of 2020. Go to www.nord.com for more details.
