Motors incorporate advanced motion control chip

Intelligent Motion Systems (IMS) is promoting its MDrivePlus line of integrated motors/controllers, that benefit from a patented advanced motion control chip for expanded functions, capabilities and enhanced performance.

Motors incorporate advanced motion control chip

MDrivePlus' advanced integrated motion technology is delivered by the patented M3000 motion control system-on-a-chip, from IMS sister company System Semiconductor, which improves motor performance, increases functionality, expands communications and makes possible a wider range of frame size offerings. Drive voltage ranges have been expanded to include 12-75V DC and 120 or 240V AC. A robust cast aluminium heat sink has been introduced, along with other chemical-resistant materials used in the housing, and interfaces for standard industrial circular connectors and cord sets are now available.

Another advantage of the integrated design is the removal of much of the wiring commonly associated with installations such as these. By removing the cabling between the controller and the motor, the largest source of electrical noise has been eliminated, together with the associated costs and time constraints in assembly. In addition, by lowering the required panel space, overall machine size can be reduced.

Compact and powerful, MDrivePlus units are reliable and cost-effective for a large range of brushless motor applications. Reducing system cost, design and assembly time, MDrivePlus motors are well suited to applications in packaging, robotics, medical instruments, assembly, semiconductor manufacturing, engraving, inspection and pick-and-place.

The MDrive range includes DC and AC versions. DC variants include: the 11, 14, 17, 23 and 34 units with frame sizes of 28, 35, 42, 56.4 and 86mm2 respectively. New AC variants include the 34 and 42 units with 86 and 114mm2 frame sizes.

MDrivePlus highlights include:

  • Smoother accurate motion
