New brochure for Checkmaster surge protection tester

Phoenix Contact is publishing a new brochure for the Checkmaster device for maintaining and testing surge protection equipment. The brochure explains how Checkmaster is an intelligent testing device because it includes the objects of the test component in the arrester test. It has been proven in practice that in order to get exact information regarding the state of an arrester, a purely thermic or mechanical test of individual components is insufficient. For this reason, the Checkmaster checks the electrical parameters of the protective plug components.

Taking the tolerance limits into account, an assertion can be made regarding potential pre-damage to the surge arrester. On the display and in the log, such pre-damage is documented with the note: 'Tolerance limit reached. Exchange recommended.'

To provide a permanent record, Checkmaster has an RS-232/C, V-24 interface to which a PC or printer can be connected. The results of the individual arrester tests can be printed and processed in a protocol with date, time and other identification data.

In addition, the Checkmaster provides the following advantages:

  • Simple test sequence: selecting, scanning, testing, logging
  • Cost-effective thanks to 'on-site testing'
  • Update via Internet, which saves on shipping costs
  • Extendable through modular test cassettes

Surge protection does not end with the use of the right products, but includes the standardised requirements for testing. The Checkmaster therefore helps to enhance plant availability.

Regular testing of of surge arresters avoids the need for extra maintenance work and the associated costs. Phoenix Contact provides s comprehensive surge protection offering - from consulting through to products and on to support, maintenance and testing.
