New environmental test chambers for rechargeable batteries

There are three standard test procedures that can be undertaken:

1. Checking the performance of the battery when it is charged and discharged repeatedly in a specific environment.
2. The temperature characteristic test that checks the characteristics when the rechargeable/secondary battery is charged and discharged within the range -40 to +100degC.
3. The storage test that checks the stability and any gas leakage when storing the batteries between -40 to +70degC.

Because the testing of batteries can produce unpredictable results, the following safety features are included to protect the operator: pressure vent; emergency stop button; and hand-tighten bolt-type door lock. Optional extras include various detectors and fire extinguishers. A three-coloured light tower indicates the chamber's operating state.

The new range of environmental test chambers consists of six models with a temperature range of -40 to + 100degC, with three of the models having a humidity range of 20 to 98 per cent RH. Constructed inside and out from stainless steel, the internal dimensions are 200 x 750 x 600mm to 1000 x 1000 x 800mm and capacities are 225 to 800 litres. Weight is between 340kg and 620kg.
