New Ethernet interface and free software for charge amplifiers

HBM has introduced an Ethernet interface and free software to simplify the integration of its CMD600 charge amplifiers at higher levels in the automation and control systems of complex machines.

New Ethernet interface and free software for charge amplifiers

One free software utility is for connection to a PLC via the TCP/IP channel of the Profinet real-time Ethernet protocol. This enables the CMD600 to be controlled and parameterised from the PLC program. In addition, measured values can be transmitted to the PLC, together with diagnosis and configuration data.

Alternative software is available that utilises the virtual instruments (VIs) in National Instruments' Labview. Using Labview as a measurement programming tool gives access to the full functionality of the CMD600 amplifier.

Force measurement is an important consideration for machines and systems, in production, automation, and research and development. Sensors measure the force that generates a charge due to the piezoelectric effect. This signal is then amplified by the CMD600 charge amplifier and rapidly output at up to 30kHz. The peak and limit value outputs integrated in the amplifier can be used for the rapid evaluation of the force response.

HBM also offers piezoelectric force sensors to complement the corresponding CMD600 type charge amplifier for all applications where rapid and reliable force measurement is required.

The software, along with examples showing various options, is available as a free download at www.hbm.com/en/menu/products/industrial-amplifiers.
